Standard operating procedures for AGL testing, maintenance, and field operations — practical, step-by-step guidance drawn from real airport project experience, organized across 22 divisions covering the full AGL lifecycle from safety and design through commissioning and training.
All 22 divisions (480 SOPs) are published and available to browse below.
Each division groups related procedures under a continuous SOP number range (SOP-01 to SOP-480). Select a division to open its full set of procedures, hold points, a Reference Basis of governing standards, checklists and downloadable Word copies.
Quick answers about the AGL SOP Library and how its 22 divisions are organized.
The AGL SOP Library by Precision AGL Academy is a collection of 480 Standard Operating Procedures for airfield ground lighting, organized into 22 divisions. It covers testing, maintenance and field operations, drawn from real airport project experience. All 22 divisions are published (Rev 0, initial issue).
By division, each with its own SOP number range. Divisions 01–02 cover airside safety and electrical safety/LOTO; 03–07 cover planning, civil works, cabling and isolation transformers; 08–12 cover runway, taxiway and approach lighting, PAPI/VASI and signage; and 13–15 cover CCR and series circuits, ALCMS and earthing. Divisions 16–19 cover inspection, testing and photometry, maintenance and commissioning, and 20–22 cover emergency response, documentation and training.
Division 02 — Electrical Safety, LOTO & Isolation (SOP-26 → SOP-50, 25 procedures). Airside work permits and runway or taxiway proximity rules are in Division 01 — Airside Safety & Work Permit (SOP-01 → SOP-25, 25 procedures).
Runway Lighting is Division 08, Taxiway Lighting Division 09, Approach Lighting Division 10, PAPI / VASI Division 11 and Airfield Signage Division 12. Inspection, testing and maintenance of these systems are covered in Divisions 16, 17 and 18.
CCR & Series Circuit is Division 13 (25 procedures), ALCMS / Control & Monitoring is Division 14 (20 procedures) and Earthing, Bonding & Lightning Protection is Division 15 (20 procedures).
Commissioning & Acceptance is Division 19, Emergency Response is Division 20 and Documentation, Records & Reporting is Division 21. Training, Competency & Knowledge Management is Division 22.
No. The SOPs are a technical framework. Each division states that approved project drawings, manufacturer's instructions, applicable standards and the airport's own procedures, permit-to-work system, ATC instructions and local regulations take precedence, and each airport should adapt them to its own manuals and requirements.
You now have access to the complete AGL SOP Library — covering airside safety, electrical systems, installation, commissioning, testing and maintenance procedures across the full airfield lighting system.
Knowing the procedure is essential. Understanding why it works, how AGL systems behave, and how to apply engineering controls in real airside conditions takes deeper technical knowledge.
