Calculator #41

AGL BOQ Generator

Project BOQ from a circuit list and a fixture / sign schedule: fixtures, signs, isolating transformers, bases and mounting, primary and secondary cable, connectors, junction boxes, CCRs, trench and accessories.

About this calculator

Define each series circuit (name, cable length, new or existing CCR), then list what is on it. Every fixture gets a transformer, connectors, a base or mounting and a label; each circuit gets cable, junction boxes and a CCR sized from its load. Fixture wattages, mounting types and all construction assumptions are editable, so the output follows your design. The result is a nominal estimate, not a final BOQ.

Quick start

1 · Series Circuits

#Circuit NamePrimary Cable Length (m)Junction Boxes (blank = auto)CCR
Notes

One row per series circuit (removing a circuit also removes its schedule lines). Cable length is the total installed primary cable of the loop (out and back). Leave junction boxes blank to calculate them from the fixture count; choose "Existing" if the circuit already has a CCR with spare capacity.

2 · Fixture & Sign Schedule

#CircuitFixture / Sign TypeQty
Notes

One row per fixture or sign type on a circuit. Guidance signs and PAPI units are in the list as "structure" types (legs, base plate, foundation pad). For sign-level material detail use the Sign BOQ calculator; for PAPI use the PAPI BOQ calculator. CSV columns: circuit, type (id or name from the library below), qty. Circuits not yet defined are created with 0 m cable length — fill in the lengths afterwards.

3 · Fixture Library & Assumptions

Notes

Wattages and construction values below are typical starting values, not manufacturer data. Set them from your fixture datasheets and project specification.

Fixture & sign library (wattage, mounting, pad)
NameMountingPower (W)Pad (m³ each)

Inset = light base can in pavement. Elevated = frangible coupling and mounting base. Structure = legs, base plate and foundation pad (signs, PAPI units, masts). Pad volume is the concrete per fixture (0 for inset).

FAQ

AGL BOQ Generator: Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers on building a nominal project BOQ from a circuit list and a fixture and sign schedule.

What does the AGL BOQ Generator do?

It builds a project bill of quantities from a circuit list and a fixture and sign schedule. It covers fixtures, signs, isolating transformers, bases and mounting, primary and secondary cable, connectors, junction boxes, CCRs, trench and accessories. The result is a nominal estimate, not a final BOQ.

What do I need to enter?

Define each series circuit with its name, primary cable length and whether the CCR is new or existing, then list the fixtures and signs on each circuit by type and quantity. The cable length is the total installed primary cable of the loop (out and back). Leave junction boxes blank to calculate them from the fixture count, and choose Existing if the circuit already has a CCR with spare capacity.

What does each fixture get?

Each fixture or sign gets one series isolating transformer, primary and secondary connector sets, a secondary lead, an identification label, and a base or mounting set according to its mounting type. The transformer is the smallest standard size at or above the fixture watts plus the margin, from 45, 65, 100, 150, 200, 300 and 500 W. Spares are added to fixtures, transformers and connectors.

What are the inset, elevated and structure mounting types?

Inset means a light base can in the pavement, with mounting bolts, an O-ring and spacer rings. Elevated means a frangible coupling and mounting base. Structure means legs, couplings, base plate, anchor bolts and a foundation pad, as used for signs, PAPI units and masts. Concrete is the pad volume per fixture times the quantity, with reinforcement per cubic metre.

How are cable, trench and junction boxes calculated?

Trench is the sum of the circuit cable lengths divided by the cables per trench, and the trench assumes the out and back runs share it. Junction boxes are the fixture count divided by fixtures per junction box, rounded up, unless you enter a number. Primary cable is each circuit's length plus the slack allowance, and counterpoise follows the trench length.

How is the CCR sized?

The load is the sum of watts times quantity divided by the transformer efficiency, plus the cable loss, and the CCR must be at least that load plus the margin. The smallest standard CCR at or above it is listed for each circuit marked New, from 4, 7.5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 50, 70 and 100 kW. Check the final design for voltage drop, insulation and CCR loading with the CCR Selection & Loading calculator.

Can I import and export data?

Yes. You can import schedule lines from a CSV file with the columns circuit, type and qty. Circuits not yet defined are created with 0 m of cable, so fill in the lengths afterwards. Save Project keeps the circuits, schedule, library and assumptions in a JSON file that you can reload, and you can download the BOQ as CSV or copy it into Excel.

Is the output a final BOQ?

No. The quantities are calculated nominal quantities, and the order quantity applies the allowance and rounds up to whole pieces. Wattages and construction values are typical starting values, not manufacturer data. The generator does not choose fixtures or spacing, price the BOQ, or model switchgear, ALCMS or vault equipment. Verify against the approved layout drawing and project specification.
